Week 6 scrog update, net is almost locked in
Running a 4x4 with a single manifold plant, 8 main colas trained out from a central hub. Started the net at about 10 inches above the pots and i've been tucking for the last three weeks. Right now i'd say the net is sitting around 75 to 80 percent full, with the middle sections finally catching up to the edges. That lag in the middle is always the thing with a single-plant scrog, the outer colas want to run and you end up chasing them back while the center fills in slow.
Flipped to 12/12 four days ago. The stretch is just starting to show, maybe half an inch of new growth above the net on the more vigorous sites. i'm letting those run one more node then tucking one final time before i stop training altogether and let the canopy set.
Defoliation pass was light this week, just pulled the big fan leaves that were sitting below the net and blocking airflow through the lower canopy. Didn't go crazy. The plant still needs that leaf mass up top to push through the flip and i don't want to stress her right now when the stretch hormones are doing their thing.
Post a pic of your scrog setups if you're mid-run right now. Always curious how people are spacing their anchor points and what mesh size they're working with. I'm on 2-inch squares and honestly wish i'd gone to 3-inch, the tucking would have been a lot cleaner.

The defoliation timing sounds right to me, lighter touch right after the flip is where a lot of people go wrong and strip too hard.
One thing i'll throw out there since you mentioned the middle lag -- i've had better luck running two plants in a 4x4 with a scrog instead of one big manifold, just because the fill is naturally more even and you get to hunt two phenos at once. The single-plant manifold approach is clean and i respect the structure of it, but man, the terp variation you can find across two different phenos of the same strain in the same net is genuinely addicting once you go down that road. Harvested a run last year where one side of my net smelled straight diesel and the other was almost tropical, same pack of seeds.
On the mesh size, 3-inch is way more forgiving during late-stretch tucks. Switched to it two runs ago and haven't looked back.
The middle lag thing is real but i've started to wonder if it's more about stem thickness from the manifold training than actual growth rate. Those outer colas on an 8-way manifold are usually running thicker vascular lines from being closer to the original split points, so they just push harder. Might be worth trying a slightly asymmetric tuck next run where you give the center sites more room to run before you fold them back, see if that closes the gap faster.
Also curious about your net height relative to the canopy now that stretch is kicking. Four days post-flip with half an inch of growth already showing sounds like your final tuck is going to happen pretty fast, maybe faster than one more node if she really takes off. Some strains throw three inches in a week once the stretch hormones really hit, so just keep an eye on that.
My whole setup is autos so i don't run a net that way, but the mesh size thing translates across any training style. Three inch squares are just easier to work with, less wrestling with the plant.
