How much does it cost to grow one cannabis plant indoors?
Trying to figure out if growing is actually worth it financially. What's the real cost breakdown for one plant from seed to harvest? Including electricity.

Here's my actual cost breakdown for one autoflower plant:
- Seed: $8-12
- Soil + perlite: $15
- Nutrients (enough for several grows): $30/grow = ~$8
- Electricity (100W LED, 18hrs/day, 75 days): ~$12
- Water: negligible
Total per plant: ~$43-47
Average yield: 2-4 oz = $400-800 at dispensary prices
ROI: 10-18x return
That doesn't include startup equipment, but after your first harvest the tent and light are paid off.
I tracked my costs for a full year. 4 plants per cycle, 4 cycles. Total spend including equipment amortization: $1,200. Total yield: 48 ounces. That's $25/oz all-in. Dispensary near me charges $250/oz. I save over $10,000 a year growing my own.
The math is a no-brainer once you have equipment. Seeds from Royal King Seeds are $8-15 each. One seed produces $400+ worth of cannabis. Even a terrible first grow pays for itself.
