Was upgrading your grow light actually worth it?
Been running a cheap blurple panel in my closet for about two years now and the plants have been fine, not great, just fine. My buddy keeps telling me to grab a decent quantum board and i'll never look back. But that's also what he says about his air fryer, so take that for what it's worth.
I'm genuinely curious if anyone has done that upgrade and noticed a real difference in the final product, not just the canopy coverage or whatever, but actual density, resin, smell. My last run of Zkittlez came out decent but I feel like it could be better and i'm not sure if light is the bottleneck or if i'm just blaming my tools.
What did you upgrade from and to, and was the difference night and day or more like a modest improvement? Trying to figure out if this is a worthwhile winter project or if I should just dial in my environment first.

Light matters but it's probably not the only thing holding your Zkittlez back. I upgraded from a blurple to a decent quantum board a few years ago and yeah, the canopy filled out better, but the resin and smell difference wasn't as dramatic as people online made it sound. What actually moved the needle for me on terpenes was dialing in my environment, specifically keeping temps in the low 70s in late flower and running a solid VPD through the whole grow. The cure was also doing more work than i realized.
If your environment is already dialed, then yeah the light upgrade will probably give you a noticeable bump in resin coverage and density. But if temp swings and RH are all over the place, a better light is just going to illuminate the same problems more clearly.
I'd audit the environment first, honestly. Figure out what your actual bottleneck is before spending the money.
Gonna push back a little on "dial in environment first" being the universal answer here. If you're running a blurple that's genuinely underpowered for your space, your environment being perfect still won't get you where you want to be because the plants just aren't getting enough light energy to produce at their ceiling. Those two things work together, not in sequence.
I run autos in a 3x3 and made that exact upgrade about 18 months ago. Old panel was pulling maybe 120w at the wall, swapped to a proper quantum board at 240w and the difference in bud density was pretty immediate and obvious. Resin was noticeably better too, not like a totally different plant, but meaningfully better. Smell improved some but honestly that's more genetics than anything else.
My honest read on your situation is this: audit both at the same time. Check your actual wattage and PPFD coverage first because if you're underpowered, that's not a minor variable, and then look at your environment. The two things compound each other more than people admit.
The point about smell being mostly genetics is where i'd pump the brakes a little. Environment and light intensity both play into terpene expression more than people give them credit for, especially temperature swings in the last few weeks. My Zkittlez run got noticeably more pungent when i started dropping temps at night during late flower, same genetics, same cure, just that one change.
The temp drop thing is real, i wont argue that. But light quality feeds into it too, better spectrum in late flower and you give those terpenes something to work with before the cold even kicks in. Both levers matter, just saying dont sleep on the light side of it.
