Small pheno hunt, week 2 veg, already seeing differences
Popped a pack of 10 seeds last month, kept 7 of the strongest seedlings and now i'm two weeks into veg. Already getting some really distinct variation between plants and i'm pretty stoked about it. This is why i do this, honestly the genetic lottery is half the fun.
Three of the plants are wide and squat with really dark green, waxy leaves. Growth is slow but dense. Two others went the opposite direction, tall and stretchy, lighter green, internodes already spacing out more than i'd like. Those two might be the ones to watch for sativa-leaning terps but who knows at this stage.
The two i'm most excited about are a matched pair that look almost identical, medium structure, slightly purple tinting on the new growth even though temps are in the mid 70s. That pigmentation showing up this early usually points somewhere interesting for me, last time i saw that i ended up with a straight blueberry fuel pheno that was stupid loud.
Nose on the stem rub is already telling a small story. The dark leafy ones smell kind of spicy and hashy, almost like a sandalwood thing. The stretchy ones are more neutral right now. The purple pair have a faint but unmistakably sweet and slightly sour thing going on, almost like grape candy mixed with something dank underneath it.
Anyone else using early stem rub smell as a selection tool? Curious if you lean on structure or early scent more when narrowing down a hunt. Would love to hear what signals people actually trust at this stage.
